Award recognizes leading performance in governance, risk and compliance.
McLean, VA - ACADEMI's General Counsel has been honored by Corporate Secretary Magazine as the 2013 Governance Professional of the Year for small to mid-cap firms. Nominations were received from the legal community at large, and judges for the Award included a former SEC commissioner as well as a former chairman of the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals.
ACADEMI, a provider of assessment, training and protective services to both the federal government and corporate clients, was previously awarded the Corporate Compliance Office of the Year Award for 2012 by the National Law Journal and the Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association's 2013 Outstanding Law Department Award.
The niche security and protective services provider was purchased in 2010 by a group of private investors who immediately set out to build a more compliant, transparent and accountable business structure based on the company's core competencies.
The investors instituted a Board of Directors, as well as a new management team, led by CEO Craig Nixon. “We are honored and proud that ACADEMI's legal team has been recognized by Corporate Secretary for this prestigious award," Nixon said. “The selection demonstrates our new direction and vision for the company. The team has constantly worked – and succeeded – in building and maintaining a best-in-class governance program."
ACADEMI provides protective services to government and commercial clients worldwide and conducts customized, comprehensive training programs at its 7,000-acre training facility in Moyock, North Carolina. It also operates facilities in Salem, Connecticut and San Diego, California as well as in Kabul, Afghanistan. The company's corporate office is located in McLean, Virginia.
